  • Andre Russell has a strike rate of 185.33 after his first 1000 IPL runs
  • Not even the likes of Gayle, Maxwell and Sehwag had a higher strike rate after their first 1000 runs
  • On Saturday, Russell smashed a 28-ball 62 for KKR against Delhi Capitals

Andre Russell has the highest strike rate after his first 1000 runs in the Indian Premier League. He smashed 62 off 28 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders against Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla and went past 1000 IPL runs during the course of his innings.

Russell now has 1049 runs from 53 IPL matches at a strike rate of 185.33. In 2019, he has a strike rate of 248.43 after scoring 159 runs from 3 matches. Russell is now the Orange Cap holder in this season.

Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Russell had smashed an unbeaten 49 and his whirlwind knock helped KKR win a thriller.

Against Kings XI Punjab, Russell was on fire again and smashed 48 besides picking two wickets to script another win for KKR. Andre Russell had a far more important role to play in Delhi on Saturday. He walked in to bat after KKR had lost their top five inside the first 10 overs.

Andre Russell’s innings was more heroic because he battled pain to batter the Delhi Capitals bowling attack.

He said he felt the pain and decided to play his shots instead of “hanging there.”

“It was tough for me after getting hit on the shoulder. Karthik kept talking to me throughout the innings.

“I told DK that I was getting the pain, so there was no point of hanging there, I played my shots. It worked for me in the end and I think we can defend this total.

“At one point we were thinking of 150 but the partnership between me and helped us post 185,” he said.

In the company of skipper Dinesh Karthik, Russell added 95 for the sixth wicket to resurrect the KKR innings. Russell was hit on the arm but that did not stop him from playing a fiery inning studded with 4 fours and 6 sixes.

Andre Russell’s strike rate of 185.33 after his first 1000 runs is much higher than the likes of Chris Gayle, Virender Sehwag, Glenn Maxwell, Rishabh Pant.

Gayle recently became the fastest to 4000 IPL runs and on Saturday, became the first man to smash 300 sixes in Indian Premier League history.
