HIGHLIGHTS

  • Both AAP and Congress slammed BJP over sealing of property across several places in Delhi
  • BJP trade wing leader said it is not the party’s fault but a mistake of the civic agencies in Delhi
  • Delhi Congress working president said BJP will have to pay the price in upcoming Lok Sabha elections

While it seems that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections would be contested on national issues, the recent sealing drive in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area may become the deciding factor in Delhi.

Around 10,000 properties have been sealed in Delhi in the last one-and-a-half year which includes thousands of houses, shops, and illegal factories. This has caused a big loss to the middle-class traders in Delhi.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is most actively involved in bringing up the issue of sealing in Delhi.

AAP trade wing convener and candidate from New Delhi seat Brajesh Goyal said the traders of Delhi have not forgotten the oppression and atrocities inflicted on them by the Modi government which brought their business to a very low level.

According to Goyal, the BJP will have to suffer for this in the general elections. Even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in almost every public meeting that if the Centre provides full statehood to Delhi, then he will stop the sealing drive within 24 hours.

BJP trade wing leader and general secretary of Sadar Bazar Traders’ Association Devraj Baweja said that it is true the sealing drive has made traders upset with the BJP, but it is the fault of civic agencies.

“Now, the sealing drive is running only on the orders of the monitoring committee formed by the Supreme Court. The properties which were sealed by mistake are now being de-sealed,” he said.

Delhi Congress working president Devender Yadav said that sealing drive is not new in Delhi but during the Congress rule, Ajay Maken had made such provisions that the drive did not hurt the trade.

Devender said that the BJP will have to pay the price for its action in the upcoming elections.
