March is getting dramatic with a touch of the feels.
After an exciting February filled with dragons, superheroes, and Groundhog Day nightmares, Netflix will keep the momentum going in March 2019 with new shows, movies, and the return of a few popular original series. Of course, there’s also some old favorites leaving the streaming service that you may want to watch before the end of the month.
AVAILABLE MARCH 1
- A Clockwork Orange
- Apollo 13
It’s a Tom Hanks-heavy slate, with Apollo 13 being the first of his offerings. Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon flank Hanks in the dramatic retelling of the America’s ill-fated third attempt to the moon.
- Budapest (FR) (Netflix Film)
From Netflix: Two friends quit their boring jobs to start a company that plans bachelor parties in Budapest. Their wives, however, have mixed feelings about this.
- Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians (Netflix Original)
From Netflix: In the world’s toughest cricket league, every game is a battle. Can Mumbai Indians come together and bring home another trophy?
- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The Ang Lee-directed wuxia film is full of beautifully choreographed martial arts sequences, captivating cinematography, and compelling female leads. Notable for being a box office success in the U.S. despite it being a foreign-language film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the highest for a foreign-language film before being tied with this year’s Roma.
Starring Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians), Chow Yun-Fat (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), and Zhang Ziyi (Memoirs of a Geisha).
- Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks
Following the thoughtful story that eventually turned into Mary Poppins, the tale between Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) and P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) will put a smile on your face that even a spoon full of sugar couldn’t.
- Emma
- Junebug
- Larva Island: Season 2 (Netflix Original)
From Netflix: A new season of hilariously zany adventures for larva pals Red and Yellow includes an invasion of their island!
- Losers (Netflix Original)
From Netflix: In a “winning is everything” society, how do we handle failure? Using sports as its guide, this documentary series examines the psychology of losing.
- Music and Lyrics
- Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
- Northern Rescue (Netflix Original)
From Netflix: After the sudden death of his wife, search and rescue commander John West relocates with his three kids to his rural hometown of Turtle Island Bay.
- River’s Edge (JP) (Netflix Film)
From Netflix: High schooler Haruna befriends loner Yamada, then is drawn into the tangled relationship between him, a model and the girl who loves him unreasonably.
- Stuart Little
If you’re in the mood for a cozy childhood classic, why not return to Stuart Little? The talking mouse has became a subject of meme fodder, most of them directed in hatred, so let’s see if this little punk mouse deserves the criticism.
- Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
- The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (Netflix Film)
From Netflix: Inspired by a science book, 13-year-old William Kamkwamba builds a wind turbine to save his Malawian village from famine. Based on a true story.
- The Hurt Locker
We’re still laughing because this is the movie that Kathryn Bigelow beat her ex-husband James Cameron for Best Director. LOL, Avatar.
- The Notebook
It’s the overwrought romantic drama of our time. The Nicholas Spark classic comes to Netflix to show that some love stories can surpass death (SPOILER, sorry). Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are perfect in this sleepy North Carolina romance.
- Tyson
- Wet Hot American Summer
The cult classic returns to Netflix! To be clear, this is the film that spawned the eventual Netflix series, but trust us: this is even better. Get in with the cult status.
- Winter’s Bone
This is one of Jennifer Lawrence’s earliest performances and the one that landed her an Oscar nomination before she was a household name. Following a girl who becomes a caretaker for her brother and sister, Winter’s Bone is a timely tale of crime in the Ozarks.
