We’re the first to admit: colour is tough. While we have our wardrobe mainstays of neutral palettes and classic wearable shades (which are—let’s be honest—just variations on the blue, green and red colour scale), anything out of the ordinary is tricky.
Like: can I pull that ultra-violet dress off? Will wearing salmon-orange trousers make me look like wilded-out Chris Pine on holiday? My best friend told me this mango-yellow suit was cool but… how much do I really trust her?
(See our Marie Kondo-ed discard pile for further examples.)
That’s why it’s extra-refreshing when we can add in new pops of colour that have already gotten their fashion tick of approval.
Instead of DM’ing your mate a blurry dressing-room selfie with the caption “CAN I WEAR THIS BE HONEST”, look to this curated list of five new colours that have already cut their little proverbial teeth on the runways and in campaigns.
We tapped Bridget Veals, the general manager of David Jones’ Womenswear, and Kimberly Gardner, who is styling the David Jones’ 2019 Autumn Winter launch currently unfolding in Tasmania, to untangle the sartorial colour-wheel for us.
Colour us curious. (God, we know.)
